Photography Tips According to Deborah Michelle Photography

I sat down with Debby of Deborah Michelle Photography to get some insight into the world of photography, including tips & tricks for small business photography and some insight into her business. Read on to learn more!

First off, tell us a little more about yourself and your business.

Hi, I am Deborah Michelle but you can call me Debby! I grew up in Greensboro, Alabama with basically a camera in my hand. I was always photographing something whether that was a family vacation or something for the high school yearbook. In college, I shadowed a wedding photographer and immediately fell in love with all things weddings. After college, I launched my photography business & here we are today in Birmingham, Alabama celebrating 8 years of business. I love serving easy-going, joyful clients who treasure capturing memories for generations to come.

My husband and I just celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary, it's true what they say "time flies"! We have an English Springer Spaniel, Murray; and enjoy spending time at one of Birmingham's amazing restaurants and breweries on our off-days.

What's the best piece of advice you can give a small business owner when preparing for a photoshoot?

Prepare to have fun! Photoshoots for your business do not have to be stressful, trust me. I strongly suggest putting together a mood board, so that you and the photographer can be on the same page as far as the look you are wanting to portray for your business. Set expectations in the beginning and trust that your photographer will deliver.

What's something (or someone) interesting that you've shot lately?

I never thought I'd become an expert on photographing craft beer, but I've thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the amazing staff at Cahaba Brewing and the opportunity to stretch my creative side.

Any tips and tricks for getting pics on your phone?

It's all about good light. A lot of times I see people gather in front of a window, but if you turn around & face the window, you'd be in even light.

And of course, how do people book with you?!
